Our Story
The Lauderdale football club was formed in 1979, and since then has strived to participate in higher levels of football. Originally, playing in the old Tasman Association as the Magpies the club moved to the Tasmanian Amateurs as the Cats in 1981.
After a few years adjusting to the greater standard, the club began participating regularly in the finals contemplating in winning the 1991 Grand Final.
In the early 2000s the club began an association with the Essendon Football Club resulting in a change to its current Bombers nickname and colours.
This period saw the club experience considerable on-field success, particularly in the junior ranks. This success together with increasing growth saw the club invited into the Premier Division of the Southern Football League and one of only 10 clubs to form the Tasmanian Statewide League in 2009.
Playing in the best competition in the State has presented many challenges for a young club and they have responded well to these challenges. Upmost of these challenges has been to get the ground and facilities up to a standard consummate with the elite level of football in Tasmanian.
Despite being unable to secure funding from State and Federal Governments, the club using its own funds and with the generous support of Clarence Council has managed to make considerable improvements, such as a bigger and better ground, new scoreboard and coaches box, improved spectator facilities as well as alterations and additions to its clubrooms, including a players gymnasium.
Despite the improvements, the club appreciates that more needs to be done to bring the ground facilities for spectators up to the level of its competitors in the SWL, and is hopeful governments will recognise the fact that Lauderdale home crowd numbers are consistently the highest in the State, and assist with funding spectator comfort at the Lauderdale Oval.
On field the club continues to improve. After narrowly missing out on the finals in 2011, the Bombers are well on track to make it this year and its results indicate that it is capable of going deep into the September action.
With the support of AFL Tasmania and its generous sponsors including K&D and major sponsor Tyreright, the club reappointed highly regarded coach, Darren Winter, as it's full-time General Manager Football Operations and has also appointed a full-time Development Officer.
The filling of these 2 roles will enable the club to progress its focus on junior development, which in recent times has resulted in AFL draftees, Mitch Robinson to Carlton, Sam Lonergan to Essendon, Tom Collier to Brisbane and Jacob Gillbee to Gold Coast. Lauderdale has 7 players in this years Tasmanian Mariners - the highest of any club, and it is hopeful that the next AFL draftee will come from that group in 2013.

Kyree Gaffney
Kyree joined the Board in 2020. Kyree originally associated with the Club when her son’s played junior football. She then become more involved in 2018 after asking if the club needed a hand one Saturday.
This lead Kyree into volunteering for the umpire escort role and her 2 sons taking on the roles of Water Carrier’s for the senior squad. Kyree’s husband, Wayne, soon joined by taking on a Sports Trainer role.
In 2020 Kyree handed over the Umpire Escort role to become a Sports Trainer also. Kyree and Wayne’s two daughter also lend a hand on game day. With one son and daughter playing, a son umpiring junior and youth games Kyree’s weekends are footy full.
